John Farley Tuesday, March 5, 2013 The activity of the Spirit in the lives of Church Age Believers, part 2.Does the Bible make our confessing our sins in 1Jo 1:9 the determining factor in our being filled by the Spirit in Eph 5:18? I cannot find in the Bible where it tells Church Age believers, who are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, that confessing our sins results in the filling of the Holy Spirit. The Bible does not say that confessing my sins results in the filling of the Spirit. The homework assignment was to read 1 John, find the passages that mention the Holy Spirit, and see what the letter says about the Holy Spirit. Does this passage, 1Jo 1:1-7, or does anything in this letter, say that a person can go from being in fellowship to being out of fellowship? You cannot be IN THE DARKNESS and have fellowship with God.
But can you HAVE FELLOWSHIP with God, and then after that, go from Here we have a person in fellowship with John, and John’s fellowship is with the Father and the Son, so here we have a person who is walking in the Light and has fellowship. Nothing said here that indicates it is even possible for someone to go from having fellowship to not having fellowship.
There is only the question of having fellowship. It all comes down to whether a person can be in the Light and go back to being in the darkness. Does 1 John say that a person can go from being in the Light to being in the darkness?
The movement is from darkness to Light. There is only one other section in 1 John that refers to either darkness or Light. And it is a few verses later, in 1Jo 2:8-11.
People who hate their brother and are IN THE DARKNESS. you cannot say from the letter of 1 John that anyone who has fellowship with God the Father and God the Son can ever lose fellowship with God the Father or God the Son. walking in darkness is equated with hating your brother, and abiding in the Light is equated with loving your brother. in 1 John the movement is always from darkness to the Light and NEVER from the Light back into the darkness. Does that turn out to be the way things are across the New Testament?
