Pastor Teacher Sunday, January 30, 2022 “I am the Light of the world.”Joh 8:12-20 Once again, Jesus chose a metaphor that is universal. Water. Bread. Light. “I AM these things.” Joh 6:53 Living water. He came to bring real life to the world. Eternal life. HE IS the real bread: the bread of eternal life. HE has the living water that springs up to eternal life. Joh 1:4 This story of the Light begins in the Old Testament, in the book of Genesis. He is once again identifying Himself as the Lord God, Yahweh, the creator. Gen 1:1-5 1Jo 1:5 God is Light. Psa 27:1 They did not have John 1:4, but they did have Psalm 36. Psa 36:7-9 Yahweh. Jesus is Lord. In the prophet Isaiah, the LORD God calls His Servant a light. Isa 49:6-7 This light - this Suffering Servant - brings salvation to the ends of the earth. Joh 1:29 Jesus as the Light shines brightly across the gospel of John. Joh 1:5 This verse introduces the incompatibility of Light and darkness. Joh 3:18-21 All men begin life in the darkness. Dead in sin, without Christ. They are afraid of having their sinfulness exposed. Joh 8:12 Believers do not walk in darkness. They have the Light of life – eternal life. Joh 12:35-36 Darkness cannot prevail against the Light. Psa 18:28 Joh 10:28
