A different gospel
Post-modernism & the church
Only one in five Americans claim to believe in absolute truth.
85% of people in evangelistic churches say that the Bible is the infallible word of God.
However, 53% of evangelicals also say that there is no such thing as absolute truth!
Taboo subjects : sin, righteousness, judgment, wrath, hell, the cross, and redemption.
What people in the world want is to have their emotional needs and desires met,
and to have “awesome”, “life changing” experiences.
Bible teaching is OUT; mythmaking is IN.
Where do you end up? With a church that is preaching a different gospel.
What people NEED is the truth that they are sinners, and they need a Savior.
Salvation comes one way, and that is through the blood of Christ, who died on the cross for our sins.
There is nothing in the gospel about the American Dream!!
Post-modernism has found an effective vehicle to get inside: the emergent church.
The vulnerability they exploit is declining church attendance, particularly among our young people.
Nearly two-thirds of evangelicals under thirty-five believe that non-Christians can go to heaven.
76% of evangelicals aged 18-29 do not think that one religion is true and others are not.
Among Americans age 18 to 29, 43% do not identify as Christians (Protestant or Catholic).
The younger you are, the less likely you are to take the Bible literally, …
…or to believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, as opposed to a book of moral precepts.
Young evangelicals pray less often,
The lie is that we have to change how we do things - including our message! - in order to bring more people to Christ.
