What does this new life look like?John Farley
Pastor-Teacher Sunday, September 25, 2016 Practical Christianity: We are facing the subject of sin and death. Jam 1:13-15 We are the …. “but” people “unless” people “much more” people “so that” people We are the God used death And so we, all believers, died to sin!! Rom 6:1-7, Rom 6:11-23 In Romans 6, Paul applies the strategy - the cross and resurrection of Christ- to the practical daily lives of Christians. Sin is no longer our master. Isn’t this exactly the vision that Jesus paints for us in the Gospel of John? Joh 5:24 Romans six is this great connecting tissue between the vision and the practical impact on our behavior. Or, if you like, between the words of Jesus and the exhortations of James. Rom 8:1-4 What is the secret as to how God is fulfilling the righteousness of the Law in Christians? It’s the Holy Spirit and His governing power in our lives. Rom 8:12-14 So by the Spirit, put to death the deeds of the body. Then you will really live. What does For that we turn to Romans chapter 12. Would a person who’s living this life be fulfilling the commandments that James gives us? Would they honor the poor equally well as the rich? Would they take care of the widows and orphans in their midst? Would they control their tongues? Let make some connections! Rom 12:1-21 Stay in Romans 12. I’ll do the heavy lifting in James. Rom 12:1 Jam 1:25-27 Jam 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. Rom 12:2 Jam 4:1-4 Jam 4:4 Rom 12:3 Jam 4:6-10 Jam 4:10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you. |
