Putting away the old man.

The old man is who we were in Adam.

The old man is a kind of man whose history God ended at the cross.

The old man is the race of mankind who were slaves to sin and under the law.

The old man is who we WERE naturally.

We WERE by nature children of wrath. (EPH 2:3)

Our old man was crucified with Christ,

so that the body of sin might be made useless, so that we would no longer be serving sin.

In the past…our old man was crucified.

In the future, our body of sin will be put out of business.

In the present, from now on we should not serve sin.

A crucified man is no bother to anyone.

A crucified man is no use to anyone.

Pretty much dead, doomed to death, but still hanging on that cross.

Our old man was crucified, so with respect to us, he is of no use to sin any more.

The world has been crucified to me, and I to the world, GAL 6:14.

I see the end that is in store for the world. God reveals this to me in His word.

When the world looks at the old me now, it sees a dying man on a cross.

The new me, the one born of God, is clearly of no use to the world either.

GAL 5:24
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

The verb “have crucified” in the Greek is in the aorist active indicative!

Do you belong to Christ? ALL BELIEVERS DO!

Then YOU have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires!

The old man was crucified.
