We died to sin.

NOT

I

If you want to know what NOT I, but YOU looks like,
simply look to Jesus.

We will examine how the “NOT I” attitude works in our spiritual life.

There are three
“NOT I”s
for our spiritual life.

1. NOT I BUT
SIN.

2. NOT I BUT CHRIST.

3. NOT I BUT OTHERS.

NOT I BUT SIN.

NOT I BUT CHRIST.

NOT I BUT OTHERS.

1. NOT I BUT
SIN.

1PE 2:24

He died for our sins so we might die to sin.

Sin is the seat of the rebellion against God.

Sin encompasses
(1) our personal sins; (2) sin in our bodies;
(3) sin as a master.

(1) our personal sins;

(2) sin in our bodies: “the flesh”;

and
(3) sin as a master:
the bondage of sin.

They are blind to the fact that sin dwells in our body -the “flesh”.

And they do not think of sin (the seat of the rebellion against God) as a master.

The death apple

Christ died and rose again to free us from all three aspects of sin:

sin as a master (the root) sin in the flesh (the tree)
personal sins (the fruit).

Coming to know and believe that
Christ’s death to sin was your death to sin.

1PE 2:24

You may not realize it, but as a believer,
you have already died to sin. That’s a fact.

Sin still dwells in the members of our body - even after we have been redeemed.

But if you are a believer in Christ,
you died to sin.

If you don’t believe that you died to sin, your flesh will make your life miserable.

So the first NOT I that we need to adopt is NOT I, BUT SIN.
