klhtoV apostoloV
kletos apostolos

the adjective kletos and what it means to be called.

God shouted to you in eternity past, and, like light from a distant star that you finally see, it is perhaps only now that you are hearing Him.

kletos means to be called, invited, or appointed.

In the New Testament, to be called means to be designated and set apart by an action of God to some special sphere and manner of being and of consequent activity.

It can mean to be invited by God in the proclamation of the Gospel to obtain salvation in all respects, as in ROM 8:28 and 1 Cor 1:24.

Kletos also means devoted to Christ and united to Him.

One reason for this is to connect whatever is true about Paul’s calling to the calling of the Roman Christians and by extension the calling of each and every believer in Christ during the Church Age.

John 17:1
I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world; they were Yours and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.

Believers were connected with Christ before their earth history; they were chosen in Him before the foundation of the world, EPH 1:4.

Finally, kletos means called to the discharge of some office or commission, divinely selected and appointed.

“Calling” refers to the work of God by which He calls people to salvation and their spiritual destiny.

GAL 1:1
Paul, an apostle ( not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead),

The Lord Jesus Christ is basically telling Paul at this point that He would be back! He would be back because He needed to teach Paul some more things.

And here we have the other half of the commission - apostle of the Gospel to the Gentiles.

Paul would be taught truth from by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself!

Paul is adamant that the doctrine he is teaching came straight from the Lord Jesus Christ by personal revelation to Paul. There was no intermediary, human or angelic.

The formation of the New Testament canon, which involved the gospel , systematic theology, and mystery doctrine.

Paul’s repeated assertion that he is a called apostle, writing with the full authority and commission of the Lord Himself - we need to know this and take it to heart ourselves.

There are mysteries that have been prepared by God since eternity past. They were never revealed in ages past. They were reserved for your dispensation.

The Lord selected Paul to be the His vessel for the proclamation of these mysteries. Now you have the privilege of learning them.

You are called as a saint, because God declared you perfectly righteous at the moment of salvation.
