Spiritual Gifts Part 100: First Peter is a primer on how to handle suffering as a Christian.

The Doctrine of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

C.  The Baptism of the Spirit is the ministry of God the Holy Spirit in placing every new believer into permanent union with the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Body the Church.

Point 4. Definition and description of the Baptism of the Spirit.

10.  The baptism of the Spirit could not occur until there was the strategic victory of Jesus Christ in the angelic conflict.

Now there was the need for a universal priesthood, since every believer was now a target of satan, 1PE 3:21.

Peter points  to the baptism of the Spirit as the thing that protects our conscience against the attacks from the kingdom of darkness in the form of persecution and accusations.

Our priesthood operates through Jesus Christ our great High Priest. It is a benefit and a result of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

HEB 7:25 Therefore He is able also to save forever [save to the completion]  those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

The issue for Christ’s High Priesthood at the Right Hand of the Father is intercession, not redemption or reconciliation.

HEB 10:14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified.

This is not referring to eternal salvation [redemption, propitiation, reconciliation], because He accomplished that at the cross, one perfect sacrifice for all time.

This is talking about deliverance after grace-by-faith salvation, when the believer needs our High Priest to intercede at the Right Hand of the Father for us.

HEB 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession

The prophet is God’s spokesman.
This Priest is OUR spokesman!

This letter of first Peter is about how to handle suffering as a Christian, particularly with respect to living in your ambassadorship and the persecution which follows.

1PE 1:6   In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials,

1PE 2:19 For this finds  favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly.

The conscience here relates to the soul condition of the believer after salvation when undergoing unjust treatment.

1PE 2:21 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,
