The Davidic covenant is a set of promises that the Lord made to King David.
David’s house and kingdom will endure, and David’s throne will be established forever.
The prophecies about the promised king are progressive.
Anticipate make confirm fulfill
The first three stages appear in the Old Testament.
The final two stages appear in the New Testament.
The covenant is confirmed in the Psalms and in the prophets.
The prophets confirm the Davidic covenant, and they expand on it.
In the Old Testament, names described a person’s character and identity.
Isaiah reveals that this son of David will be divine. He will be God as well as human.
His kingdom will include all the nations of the earth.
This king, this descendant of David, will also be the Savior.
In fact, Israel has been without a king now for over 2,500 years!
For more than forty years, Jeremiah warned Judah about the judgment that the Lord was about to bring.
The Lord instructed Jeremiah to remind the people of Judah about His sure promises to David.
He would one day establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.
The righteous Branch is the Messiah.
The Lord our righteousness
This king is the Lord and a descendant of David. The God-Man.
There is none righteous, not even one.
As a gift. The gift of righteousness, credited to us by faith in the Messiah.
